The Gourmet Outdoor Kitchen
There is a profound difference between simply grilling on a patio and experiencing a fully integrated outdoor culinary space. A masterfully designed outdoor kitchen acts as a seamless extension of your home, transforming how you host while dramatically increasing the value of your estate.
We move far beyond basic grill islands to construct custom outdoor kitchens. By incorporating premium masonry, expansive preparation surfaces, and weather-rated cabinetry, we bring the heart of your home into the landscape. Every detail is meticulously planned to ensure a flawless, resort-quality dining experience.
Because these structures are permanent additions to your property, uncompromising durability is essential. We engineer every kitchen to withstand Northeast Ohio’s demanding freeze-thaw cycles—integrating robust foundations and proper utility management so your investment remains pristine year after year.

At Bee Green Outdoor Living, we design and construct luxury outdoor kitchens across Greater Cleveland, Akron, Medina, and the surrounding communities.
We manage every phase of your culinary build to provide a truly turn-key experience. From structural masonry and custom countertop fabrication to the precise specification of professional-grade appliances, we seamlessly coordinate all essential utilities—including gas lines, plumbing, and electrical—into one cohesive design.
What Goes Into an Outdoor Kitchen

Side Burners & Cooktops
Dedicated gas burners for pots, pans, and woks alongside the main grill. Essential for heating sauces, boiling water, and preparing side dishes without going back inside.

Built-in Storage & Waste
Pull-out trash bins, stainless steel drawer systems, and dry storage cabinets built into the island. Keeps your outdoor kitchen organized and functional for real cooking.
Gas, Electric, Plumbing — What It Actually Takes
An outdoor kitchen requires professional trade work that goes beyond typical landscape construction. It involves gas, electrical, and plumbing — combined with masonry that must withstand Northeast Ohio’s freeze-thaw cycling, heavy clay soil, and temperature swings from -10°F to 95°F.
The Common Failures
Most outdoor kitchen failures trace back to shortcuts in construction: inadequate island structure that shifts and cracks, countertop materials that can’t handle freeze-thaw or UV exposure.
Improper gas connections, missing winterization provisions, and appliances that aren’t truly outdoor-rated are the most common issues we see.
A properly built outdoor kitchen requires coordination of masonry, gas, electrical, plumbing, and stone fabrication — each done to code.
Our construction standard
- Structural island:
Concrete block (CMU) or steel stud framing — fireproof, weatherproof, and built on the patio surface so the patio base carries the load. - Utilities to code:
Dedicated gas lines sized for total BTU, GFCI electrical circuits from your main panel, and plumbing with shutoff valves and drain points for winterization. - Countertop fabrication:
Templates created after the island is built to ensure a proper fit. Only freeze-thaw rated materials — granite, quartzite, porcelain slab, or poured concrete. - Winterization-ready:
Every kitchen designed with accessible shutoff valves, drain points, and access panels — not buried behind stone veneer.
Winterization
An outdoor kitchen in Northeast Ohio typically operates May through October.
Winterization is essential: shutting off and draining water supply lines, covering or disconnecting appliances, and protecting countertops.
Gas lines can stay active year-round for features like fire pits.
Every kitchen we design is winterization-ready — shutoff valves, drain points, and access panels are in easy-to-reach locations, not buried behind stone veneer.
Materials Built for Freeze-Thaw
Only freeze-thaw rated natural stone or porcelain for countertops — never engineered quartz outdoors.
Finish stone is laid with drainage space behind the veneer and weep holes at the base to prevent moisture damage.
All outdoor-rated appliances use 304-grade stainless steel, one of the finest corrosion-resistant materials available for the Northeast Ohio climate.
Wind & Smoke Management
All grill placements account for prevailing wind direction — in Northeast Ohio, that's from the southwest.
We position the grill so smoke doesn't blow back toward the seating area or the house.
In some sites, we locate grills under pergola or pavilion structures with proper clearance for ventilation and fire safety.
Materials We Work With
Granite

Quartzite
Porcelain Slab

Poured Concrete
Island Finish Materials
The island structure is finished with natural stone veneer, manufactured stone, stucco, brick, or tile. We match the finish material to your home architecture and surrounding landscape.
All finishes are installed with proper drainage behind the veneer and weep holes to prevent freeze damage.

Outdoor Kitchens and the Larger Outdoor Living Picture
Patios & Foundation
Every outdoor kitchen sits on a reinforced patio designed to handle the weight of stone, appliances, and foot traffic. We build the foundation and the kitchen as one system.
Fire features
Fire pits and fireplaces sit naturally beside outdoor kitchens. We run gas lines to both during rough-in so the fire feature and cooking station share a unified build.
Pergolas and shade structures
A pergola over your outdoor kitchen provides shade for cooking and keeps guests comfortable. We anchor the structure to the same footings for a seamless, integrated design.
Landscape lighting
Task lighting over counters, accent lights under bar tops, and pathway fixtures around the kitchen — we wire it all during construction so the kitchen works after dark.
Drainage systems
Outdoor kitchens generate runoff from sinks and rain. We pitch the surrounding patio, install channel drains, and route water away so the cooking area stays dry.
Irrigation and Sod
We protect irrigation lines during kitchen excavation and reroute zones around the new footprint so your lawn stays healthy right up to the patio edge.
Areas We Serve
This map highlights many of the communities where we regularly work. If you don’t see your area listed, give us a call — we’d love to discuss your project.
Frequently Asked Questions
A basic outdoor kitchen — a single grill island with a stone finish, granite countertop, and gas line — would start in the $15,000 to $25,000 range.
An intermediate level outdoor kitchen with a grill, side burner, refrigerator, sink and bar seating would start in the $30,000 to $60,000 range.
A more elaborate outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, multiple appliances, extensive stonework and a pergola can start in the $80,000 to $120,000 range.
We provide a written estimate that itemizes costs.
Most cities in Northeast Ohio.
Gas line work requires a gas permit. Electrical circuits require an electrical permit. Plumbing connections require a plumbing permit.
The structural island itself may or may not require a building permit depending on your city. A pergola or pavilion to sit above your kitchen typically requires a separate building permit.
We will obtain and pay for all necessary permits as well as schedule and monitor all needed inspections.
Grills and gas appliances may be used at any time – gas system operation is not affected by temperature.
The plumbing is the limitation as all water supplied fixtures such as sinks and appliances must be winterized or heat traced.
The majority of users are active in their outdoor kitchen from May through October and may grill during the winter months.
A basic single island kitchen using gas and electricity can be turned around in 2-3 weeks from start of build (after patio is laid).
More complex projects such as multi- islands, water features, pergola and large stonework will take longer, anywhere up to 4-6 weeks, depending on material availability and lead times for items such as countertops and special request appliances.
These time frames will be included in the scope of work in the quotation provided to you.
For functionality, a pergola or pavilion can be constructed over the kitchen area to keep the countertops, appliances and cooking area dry in the rain. This structure is not needed for function but rather for convenience and use.
We recommend at minimum a pergola with retractable shade/rain panels over the main cooking and preparation area. However, a solid pavilion would be even more ideal and recommended for a truly functional outdoor kitchen in the Northeast Ohio weather.
